How we started
NewsRipple began in 2024 as a morning briefing emailed among design and media professionals on shared floors at the National Design Centre. The digest covered airport retail changes, polytechnic syllabus updates, mangrove restoration milestones — items useful but scattered across government portals and corporate notices. Colleagues outside the building asked to subscribe; the public site followed with the same calm tone and without alarmist headlines.
Editorial workflow
Every weekday morning, editors review overnight statements from agencies, universities, and community organisations. A story is assigned only when it meets three tests: the facts can be checked against a primary document, the subject affects a identifiable public or professional audience, and the framing stays constructive rather than sensational.
Before publication, each piece passes two reviews:
- Verification — claims traced to filings, press releases, published research, or on-the-record interviews. We do not rely on unnamed sources for factual assertions.
- Clarity — sentences shortened for mobile reading; acronyms spelled out on first use; dollar figures noted where GST applies.
Technical topics — photonics toolkits, hydrogen blending pilots, green-facade irrigation — go to practitioners for background review. We quote them only with explicit consent.

The home page carries the fastest headline overview. Category pages suit readers who browse by beat. Article URLs stay stable so schools and workplaces can link without broken references after layout changes.
What we do not publish
- Crime blotters, court drama, or police-log rewrites
- Celebrity gossip and unverified leaks
- Anonymous accusations against identifiable people or companies
- Press-release copy pasted without independent verification
Letters to the editor require full names and verifiable detail. We may append a short reader note when it adds factual context to an existing story. Safety exceptions for withheld identity are rare and require agreement from two editors.
Independence and funding
NewsRipple is not affiliated with any political party, religious organisation, or listed company. The site is supported by desk operations funding and carries no display advertising, which keeps page weight low for readers on metered mobile plans.
Sponsored content, if ever accepted, would carry a visible label and would not appear in the home-page headline rotation.
Style and accessibility
We write in Singapore English: British spelling, local place names, metric units. Dates read as day-month-year in prose and ISO format in machine-readable attributes. Quotes are reproduced faithfully; ellipses mark removed filler, not altered meaning.
Headings follow a logical order, link text names its destination, and image alt text is written by reporters who saw the scene. This site targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast for body text and controls. Report a barrier to [email protected] — we respond within two business days.
Corrections and tips
Confirmed errors receive a visible note at the top of the affected article within one business day. We do not silently rewrite paragraphs after publication.
