Five polytechnics align new AI literacy module for first-year students

Five polytechnics agreed to roll out a shared artificial intelligence literacy module for first-year students beginning in the January intake. The syllabus covers prompt design, dataset bias, citation of generated text, and workplace scenarios in logistics, hospitality, and engineering—not as a replacement for diploma majors but as a common foundation.

Faculty chairs said alignment reduces duplicate content development and lets students transfer credits if they switch institutions during year one. Labs use offline datasets where possible so classes continue during network maintenance windows.

Industry partners contributed anonymised case studies on inventory forecasting and customer-service triage. Students must complete a capstone reflection essay graded on clarity rather than tool output quality.

MOE observers attended pilot sessions in July and requested minor adjustments to accessibility readings for visually impaired learners using screen readers.
